By Francis O'Neill Thu 23rd Mar

St Patrick’s Day 2017
Yet again another very successful Annual Club Mass and Big Breakfast hosted by Galbally Pearses GAC.  A massive THANK YOU to everyone who helped out in any way, from participating in the Mass, alter serving, reading, prayers of the faithful, music, singing, collecting of the gate collection – it was a beautiful ceremony.  Thank you to Fr. McGuckin for celebrating it with us.  Then the madness began in the centre with a full capacity crowd yet again.  Breakfast was flowing, the queues dwindled and everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful breakfast banquet provided.  The music, dancing & singing was exceptional as always with a fantastic array of talent on stage.  To everyone who helped out prepare for this event – there would not be enough thank you’s for the effort put into our Big Breakfast from our willing bunch of volunteers.  Thank you to everyone who donated food & drink to provide such a fantastic spread of food.  The generosity was overwhelming.  The atmosphere was fantastic and everyone set upon their way to enjoy the rest of their St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations.  See you all again in 2018.

Good Luck
Good Luck to all our Club members who will represent their Club, School & County over the next few days.  A great honour to yourselves and your families.

Trip To Croke Park
The Tir Eoghain GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee are organising a trip to Croke Park for Older GAA people from our County on Saturday 29th April 2017.  This is part of the GAA Social Initiative.  The mission of the GAA Social Initiative is to make clubs more age-friendly, by increasing the participation of older members of society  through events specifically designed to enrich their lives and respect the important contribution they have made and can continue to make to community life.  They wish to invite 3 people from each Club to enjoy a fantastic day out in Croke Park on 29th April.  They will enjoy a full guided tour of the Stadium, a short film on the history of Croke Park and some of the great matches played there.  This will be followed by lunch and then some time to visit the Croke Park Museum before making the journey home.  Transport will be provided from the County’s headquarters at Garvaghey with the time of leaving to be confirmed.  We are asking anyone who wishes for their name or a family member to be put forward to be nominated.   It could be a longstanding club player, the person who looked after jerseys, the groundsman, a committee member, a first aid volunteer, a fundraiser or any other committed member of your Club over the years.  This is an opportunity for your Club to recognise the contribution of a valued individual in the Club.  Please note the following: Each nominee must be over 60 years of age and names must be forwarded in writing to Club Secretary Gareth Rafferty before Sunday 26th March.  If more than 3 names are put forward / nominated, names will be picked out of a hat – current committee’s decision is final.  Please don’t miss the opportunity to recognise the people who have contributed so much to our club in previous years.  None of us would be here today, doing what we are doing  if it wasn’t for them.

Galbally Friends Fund
Galbally Friends Funds has recently been set up as a charity that will serve the Galbally area to provide support to those living with a palliative diagnosis or with complex health needs.  There will be an official launch night on Friday 24th March at 8.30pm.  A Spinathon Fundraiser has been organised on 15th April – please contact Paddy on 077 1088 3125 if you are interested in participating.

Fundraiser
The families of Deon and Celine Robinson have organised a 3 mile walk commencing from Galbally Community Centre on Sunday 2nd April 2017 at 11.30am.  Deon, a former coach with Galbally Pearses, suffered a massive Stroke 6 months ago and now suffers from Asphasia (he has no speech and his understanding limited) and weakness down his right side.  Refreshments will be served in The Mc Caughey Suite afterwards.  Voluntary donations gratefully accepted.
