We’ve changed it up a wee bit to offer even more winners if our Jackpot isn’t drawn.  Now there is a chance of 5 Lucky Winners of winning £20 each.  This week’s numbers (Wednesday 4th May) were: 4, 8, 16, 3.  Our 5 Lucky Dip winners winning £20 each were – Martin Ferguson, Emma Murphy, Denver Wallace, Aidan McMahon & Donna McNulty.  Next week’s jackpot is £3650 – if you’re not in you can’t win!  Next Draw takes place on Tuesday 10th May @ 9pm.  If you need a lotto seller to call to your home, contact any committee member or alternatively tickets can be purchased in Tally’s Mace or Donnelly’s Post Office.  Lotto is an essential source of income for the club & your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Senior & Reserve Men
On Sunday 1st May our senior men travelled to Dromore in the Reserve & Senior ACL League.  After a strong start, Dromore’s experience shone through and they came out winners in both matches.
Final Scor : – Reserve:- Dromore 3-11 Galbally 2-06
Final Score: – Senior:- Dromore 2-14 Galbally 1-05

Their next fixture is home to Strabane on Saturday 7th May in the ACL Reserve & Senior League 4.30pm & 6pm respectively.

Senior  Ladies
Points win games and that was true as Galbally registered no goals in a game of two halfs.  Leading at the break 0-7 till 0-4 with Eimear Tally having six of the points and a fine individual run through the heart of badoney’s defence the remaining score came from Alicia McGuigan out of her sweeper role!  As the second half started with a strong wind picking up, Pearse’s ladies found it tough to shackle free from Badoney’s grip, and with a rare error in the back line badoney’s forwards pounced back with two quick goals, though down for remainder of game it was the constant pressure and determination that was the driving force to get something from this game, with Eimear Tally pulling the strings she completed her day with a further three points to leave her with nine for the night.  Two valuable scores from Whonita Hagan helped to level the game, with clock ticking and momentum fairly in our corner it was with Amy Carberry that practically the last kick was to be the decisive one with a bursting run down on badoney’s goal after breaking through the tackle Amy shot on site and succeeded. A great team effort from all and a second win out of two.

Final score: Galbally Pearses 0-13 Badoney 2-6

Next up is the Ladies Division 3 Junior League (Round 3) on Saturday 7th May at home to Pomeroy Plunketts.

Minor Boys
Well done to our Minor Boys who are through to the Grade 1 Semi-Finals of the Championship against Carrickmore on Tuesday 10th May @ 7pm – venue to be confirmed.  A great performance on Wednesday 27th April saw a great team performance against our neighbours Killeeshil.

Minor Ladies
Galbally’s journey to Trillick was unfortunately an unsuccessful one as they were beaten by the home side in the first round of the Grade 3 Championship.  Galbally started off well, Claire McKeown netting a goal as well as 4 points in the first half. In a truly end to end half of football, Trillick kept the scoreboard ticking over with points while a Megan Wylie goal kept Galbally in contention and Oonagh McKeown kept her sheet clean with some crucial saves.
Half time Galbally 2-7 Trillick 0-11
It was unfortunately a game of two halves as Trillick got straight to work with their full forward netting straight after the break. The Reds never really looked back from there despite notable hard work from the Galbally defence, especially newcomers Maire McElhone and Mia Loughran.  3 further goals and a handful of points killed off the game for Trillick despite the hard working efforts from Maeve McGlinchey and Catherine Walker up front, Claire McKeown with the only score of the half for the Pearses (0-1). A late injury to Galbally’s Katie McKenna who had worked tirelessly throughout the match was the nail on the coffin as Trillick ran out winners on a final score line of 4-17 to 2-8.

We wish Katie a speedy recovery from her injury.

Galbally Team: Oonagh McKeown, Mia Loughran, Katie McKenna, Natasha Hackett, Cara McNulty, Maire McElhone, Ellen Quinn, Ciara Kelly, Sarah Quinn, Celine Knipe, Claire McKeown(1-5), Megan Wylie (1-0), Meave McGlinchey(0-1), Catherine Walker (0-2), Shannon McKeown.  Subs Used: Cara Quinn for Katie McKenna, Hannah Donnelly for Catherine Walker, Ciara O’Neill for Claire McKeown

U16 (Boys)
We are looking to appoint a management team for our U16 Boys.  If you are interested in managing this age group- please contact Kevin Kelly (Youth Officer).

Under 14 (Boys)
Our u14 boys are headed to Fintona on Saturday 30th April to the Fintona tournament.  The boys were unlucky to be beaten in the Semi Finals by the Golden Boot.  A great team performance from our U14 boys on Monday 2nd May saw the boys fight of Coalisland for a top 2 finish and home advantage in the quarter finals.  Galbally started with a fast start to the first half with a strong wind to Galbally’s advantage. Peter Cush gave Galbally a strong lead with 3 goals while Darragh Kelly put over four points. Galbally’s defence kept extremely tight throughout first half with Odhran Gillespie making a few vital saves. Coalisland just scored a goal and point in the first half and just shortly after this their number 14 received a straight red card.
Half Time Score:- Galbally 4-07 Coalisland 1-01
Galbally knew they had a lot to do in the second half against the wind. They started the second half great with a early goal. Coalisland brought themselves back in the game in the second half scoring 4-4. Credit to Galbally as they kept their discipline and won the game by two points with a great team performance.  Team & Scorers:- Odhran Gillespie, Conal Quinn, Jack McElroy, Eoghan Carberry, Owen Dickson, Joel Rafferty, Conor McKeown, Senan Morgan (0-02), John Hetherington, Rory Hetherington (1-00), Barry Carberry, Darragh Kelly (0-04), James Donnelly, Darragh McCool (1-01), Peter Cush (3-0)
Final Score:- Galbally 5-7 Coalisland 5-5
This young group of lads have finished second in the league just missing out top by score difference.  The boys have a very busy schedule coming up with the semi-final / final on Monday 9th.

Age Group Changes

Boys
Please take note of the following rule changes regarding ages for U8 / U10 & U12 Boys.

All Boys up to and including P4’s can now play for U8’s
All Boys up to and including P6’s can now play for U10’s
All Boys up in Primary 7 & Year 8 can now play for U12’s

Girls
Please take note of the following rule changes regarding ages for U8 and U10’s:

All girls up to and including P4’s can now play for U8’s
All girls up to and including P6’s can now play for U10’s

For U12 girls football, rules will remain as they previously were with date of birth eg Girls born in 2004 and later are eligible.  Any year 8’s born in 2003 will not be eligible to play u12 girls football

Gum Shields
From January 1 2014, this rule will apply to all players at all age grades. The move to make the wearing of mouthguards obligatory reiterates the Association’s long-term commitment to player welfare.  If a player refuses to comply with a Referee’s instruction to wear a mouthguard, he / she will initially be cautioned by the Referee and if the player continues to refuse, the Referee can send him / her off.  The decision on which type of mouthguard a player should obtain is a matter of personal preference. ‘Stock’ and ‘boil and bite’ options are not generally recommended by dentists, however, they will suffice for compliance with the new rules if the product 0carries a CE (European Conformity) mark. There is no doubt that custom-fitted mouthguards offer the best fit; however, teeth and mouths develop up until the age of 12 therefore young players can grow out of mouthguards over a period of time. Should a player feel that a mouthguard is not fitted properly, we would strongly recommend that advice is sought from a dental practitioner on an appropriate solution.  It has been noted that children wearing orthodontic braces and wishing to play Gaelic football will be particularly concerned about the rule change; however, the GAA recommends that these players seek advice from a range of dental practitioners on the most appropriate solution for them.
