Path Of The Pearses – Weekend Extravaganza
What can we say, what a weekend that was in Galbally.  The place was absolutely buzzing and the atmosphere was unbelievable.  It all started last Thursday night when our seniors beat Cookstown to leave us sitting at the top of the Div 2 table.  Along come Saturday and our Youth cycle, it was great to see so many youth coming out in their bicycles and attending the youth cycle, completing with 10, 5, 2 miles or laps of the track.  We hope all the children enjoyed their own ‘Path of the Pearses Cycle’.  On Saturday night we held our special mass for the cyclists, we would like to thank Fr McAleer for saying the mass and for inviting up all the cyclists at the end for a special blessing to keep all the cyclists safe on Sunday, we would like to thank the Hurson Family and the cyclists who played the beautiful music during the mass.  Then came the big day, the day we have been training for since May.  There is no words that can describe the buzz and excitement that was around the Centre as the cyclists all got ready to go.  Near 200 cyclists took off on their Path of the Pearses 90 of 50 mile cycle.  This all wouldn’t of been possible without so much help from all the volunteers.  We cannot thank you all enough, to everyone who helped mark the roads, put up all the signs, flags and buntings, to Peter Murphy and all the stewards who made sure all the roads were safe for cyclist to pass through, to Kieran O’Neill and all the kitchen staff over the last few days, making food for the youth cycle, staying up late on Saturday night to insure all the cyclists food was made for Sunday, and then cooking the BBQ on Sunday which everyone will agree was beautiful and a credit to all involved in the making of it.  Then we had all the people at the 3 food stops, ensuring there was plenty of food and drinks for the cyclist to re fuel up on, to all the video and photographers who were there on Sunday to help capture the memories on film and to everyone that came out and supported our cyclists and made Sunday a day that will be remembered for years to come.  Everyone that was involved is a real credit to the club and GAA community, a huge thank you to our Main Sponsor – Palfinger (Sean Kane & Luke Carberry)
Premier Event Sponsors – MK Group, Celtic General Contractors, Qmac Construction, Alskea Contracts and every one else who took a Jersey sponsor, £100 mile sponsors and to everyone that sponsored our cyclists we cannot thank you all enough for the support you have shown towards the club, a special thanks has to go to our top 3 cyclists who fundraised the most money there were, Ciaran Murphy, Kevin McVeigh and Carla Murphy who between them raised over £2000, fantastic effort to you all.  We would like to thank Pearse Og Armagh, Ballybay Pearse Brothers and Fr Carville for hosting us for our three food stops during the day.  To Rose Donnelly and Tallys bar for supplying the soup to all the cyclist after the cycle.  This whole event wouldn’t have been possible without the organising from our sub committee who put in many late nights work and months of organising, everything was done to perfection and its full credit to your selves for organising such a fantastic event that will be talked about for years to come.  Finally to our cyclists….. What can we say, thank you so much for getting involved in Path of the Pearses, for some cyclists before training started they never cycled before and a few weeks later you were all fit to cycle either the 90 or 50 Miles, this alone is an outstanding achievement.  Thank you all for attending the training sessions, we hope you all enjoyed Sunday and that you all had good craic along the way and enjoyed the buzz when you all arrived back to Galbally.  A big thank you to all our team leaders the cycle wouldn’t have went as smoothly without all your training and keeping all our cyclist safe during the cycle. We just want to take this opportunity again to THANK anyone who helped out over the weekend and got involved in any way.
